About this deal

I think the author’s intention was for this novel to be an expose about how a girl who seems to have everything together really doesn’t. I understand life like is like that sometimes, but for a book, there needs to be some sort of resolution. Tim doesn’t have an easy life but he was a good example for a lot of young guys that are totally lost and don’t know what to do with their lifes. However, throughout the course of the novel, the friendship between Jase and Tim grows to the extent that Tim finds a support system within Jase's family.

For Samantha, watching them is like dreaming--until one day Jase climbs up to her window, and the Garrett's finally materialize. But towards the end, as the publisher-provided synopsis says, there is a big obstacle that is dropped on Sam's and the Garrett's heads, an obstacle that is not overcome easily. A tense and utterly compelling story about a society behind a wall, and the way in which two young people seize the chance to break free. The family who moved in ten years ago, but whom Samantha still hasn't been able to talk to, due to her mom's disapproval of the Garret's raucous behavior. She's beautiful, wealthy, and has a determined mother in politics who keeps up a perfect appearance for their well-respected family.Despite that, My Life Next Door is a fantastic contemporary, that I will most likely re-read in the future. I love paranormal books way more than my realistic ones; worlds that don't really exist enthrall me way more than real ones do. This results in Jase and Samantha spending more time together and their friendship soon turns into a romantic relationship. I really like stories like this, that get you through every stage of a young relationship; that make you hold your breath for the romantic moments, for the first kiss; that make you smile at all the silliness and cuteness of the couple; that make you ache for them when they are in trouble and fall apart; that make you love them more when they get back together, much stronger as a couple, much more in love, knowing themselves better, accepting each other with the good and the bad, feeling their love grow with every page, with every word.

At times this involved a twenty-page analysis of a two minute conversation with her current crush and included such phrases as "Pause. Because I simply LOVE feeling my head so light and having my heart skip a beat remembering how it felt to fall in love for the first time (and every time after that). I just read this one a few days ago, upon the huge recommendations by my fellow book-friends, and it was GREAT!

Each member of the Garret family has their own personality and I was constantly amazed by how perfectly the author created this chaotic, yet loving family. After her father left when she wasn't born yet, Samantha's mother, Grace, threw herself into a career in politics which leads to her being State Senator when the story begins.
