About this deal

The triple LED's light output can be adjusted by holding down the on/off switch; this slowly dims the light, allowing you do pick the exact amount of brightness that you desire. In addition, the updated optical efficiency not only provides brighter light, but also saves battery life that you can now easily track with a six-setting, three-LED battery meter. Power Tap allows you to adjust the brightness simply by tapping the touch sensitive housing with your bare finger, think of it like the main beam switch in your car.

As a more compact unit with a smaller capacity battery it can't out-compete the Storm 500-R for burn time; but size isn't everything, and it does quite a lot with what it's got. These two white single power LEDs are the second light that is cycled to when the on/off button is pressed. Red is for good night vision which I’m sure is great for any military purpose, green for night and fog and blue apparently very good for map reading and also (hopefully not) for showing blood so things like forensic work. I have heard grumblings from other rechargeable headtorch users about the supply of micro USBs with Black Diamond torches, as opposed to the much newer and faster USB C. The new Storm 400 is more compact and ergonomic and an updated user interface includes a secondary switch for easier mode selection.

It's comfortable, offers the selection of its entire range of brightness in both spot and proximity modes, and has good coloration. The ability to go from long-distance spotting on night hikes to reading in the tent at night with the push-and-hold of a button is awesome, and something I won't be able to live without. will definitely recommend this, I have other lighter head torches but I always end up with this one in my pack. The headlamp has our Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting, plus PowerTap Technology which enables you to quickly access maximum brightness with the touch of a finger. The Storm is rated IPX67, which means it is both waterproof to 1-meter submersion for 30 minutes, and dustproof. If you’re after a lightweight, rechargeable headtorch with a decent burn time for night navigation, long descents in the dark or as a ‘just in case’ adventure component that you can rely on, this torch is for you.
