About this deal

From Stormzy to Björk, from Smokey Robinson to Norah Jones, from Britpop to trip hop, here is the word on how Later… began, evolved and has endured, accompanied by exclusive interviews with some of the show’s regular stars as well as the unique pictorial record of Andre Csillag who photographed the show for over 20 years.

The show brings out the best in musicians, where they feel they’ve escaped… the genre they started in. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Part of what has made the show so special is the format - all those bands, singers, stars and newbies brought together to listen as well as to perform in Jools' circle of dreams. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Enter Jools Holland, famous in the UK as the co-presenter of Channel 4’s influential music show The Tube. These include a touching account of the late Amy Winehouse and her extraordinary musical talent, plus a young man who appeared to have wandered in off the street named Ed Sheeran. Irish artists, a significant strand over the years, have included Paul Brady, The Corrs, The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sinéad O’Connor, Lankum, Villagers and, just a few weeks ago, Dermot Kennedy. Dave Grohl and Alicia Keys loved it, Björk treasured it, Ed Sheeran’s life was changed by it, Kano felt at home while Nick Cave was horrified but inspired, and they all kept coming back. But there's always been plenty of mayhem alongside the magic of convening a room full of musicians hosted by one of their own.

They loved the way they looked, the way they sounded and the mixture of musicians they were on with. Mark began writing about music when he reviewed The Sex Pistols’ last ever show at San Francisco’s Winterland in January 1978.
